Our book club met last Monday in the library. Seven of us sat and discussed our last read 'The Running Grave' by Robert Gilbraith (the pseudonym for J.K.Rowling). A bestselling crime fiction novel set around a sinister cult operating in the remote Norfolk. There were mixed feelings about the book within the group, leading to colourful discussion.

July's read is Percival Everett's book 'James'. This book is widely celebrated as a masterful and subversive companion piece to Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'. Reimagining the classic story entirely through Jim's perspective. The novel balances harrowing historical truth with biting wit - says The Guardian.

August's read is to be Ann Cleeves 'The Dark Wives'. This story follows Vera and her team as they investigate the murder of a care home worker and search for a missing teenager, with clues leading to the eerie local folklore of ancient standing stones.

We really have to thank Ruth at Ashbourne Library for sourcing our variety of books. Its good to take you out of your 'comfort zone' sometimes and read something completely different. Is a friendly way to start a week, meeting as we generally do on the first Monday of every month between 10.00am and 11.00am with a hot drink.
If you would like to come along and meet us do please call into the library and make yourself known, or make contact with St Oswald's Church Office.
